Community-Based Mentoring

Our unique brand of one-to-one mentoring, in which a child facing adversity is carefully matched with a caring adult mentor in a relationship supported by professional Big Brothers Big Sisters staff members, changes lives for the better forever.

Community-Based Mentoring matches trusted, caring, screened adults one-to-one with a child in their community. It’s all about one-on-one time spent with the volunteer and child doing things they enjoy — a few hours a week filled with shared interests and activities like:

● Shooting hoops
● Playing a board game
● Sharing a pizza
● Taking a walk in the park
● Or just hanging out and talking

Each match is unique. Getting together doesn’t require a special occasion or expensive activity—just a few hours every week doing things the Little and Big already enjoy.

BBBS mentoring works because a screened, trained volunteer is paired with a child based on their compatibility. Together they receive professional match support as their relationship grows. Also, the schedule can be flexible to meet the needs of mentor and youth. Some Bigs meet their Littles on the weekend — others get together after school.
